PORTS on Wednesday, March 12
This Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at 1:00 pm, we are going to virtually visit Bidwell Sacramento River State Park near Chico, CA. Chico is about 90 miles from Sacramento, CA. The Sacramento River runs through this park and continues through the city of Sacramento until it joins with the Feather River. In our years of doing PORTS field trips, we have never been to a park in this part of California.

Our field trip is going to focus on the “World’s Smallest Superheroes”, which are tiny decomposers that help to keep soil healthy so plants can grow, as well as breakdown waste into usable materials. Our ranger will be showing us animals, insects and other critters that all help with breaking down waste and help us to make our land more healthy.
I’ve posted some items in our Google classroom to help us get ready for this fun and interesting trip. One of the items is a book about the Bidwells, a pioneer family that Bidwell Sacramento State Park is named for.
