Physical Fitness Test (PFT) - Gr. 5, 7, 9
Physical Fitness Test (PFT) Mandatory for Grades 5, 7, 9
On September 18, 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law SB 820. SB 820 prescribes that, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to comply with state and local health guidelines, the administration of the physical performance test shall be suspended for the 2020–21 school year. Therefore, the PFT will not be required to be administered and the CDE will not be collecting PFT data for the 2020–21 school year.
The PFT usually occurs in April and/or May. See school calendar for individual site testing dates. This is state-mandated for 5th, 7th, and 9th grade students, unless there is a physical disability or other medical reason that prevents participation. It consists of the following elements: aerobic capacity (PACER - Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run), body mass index (height and weight), flexibility (shoulder stretch and trunk lift), abdominal strength (curl-ups), and upper body strength (push-ups). PE testing is given in the spring semester, usually at all three sites. For more information, check out the following resources and websites:
