Valuable Lessons Learned We're excited to share a valuable lesson learned at our recent Mountain Oaks Transition workshop. Board Member David Rose provided an incredible hands-on lesson on essential vehicle maintenance skills. Students actively participated in learning how to check tire pressure, change a tire, check oil, and how to jump-start a vehicle. Dave also bought them all their own tire pressure gauge to practice with on their family vehicles. Click article title to see pictures. Posted 12/5/24
Updated Rewards Points Hello Mountain Oaks Families! As fall begins to peek its head out and the weather is changing (hopefully) we wanted to let you know of an exciting change to our rewards point system. We have retired the old "Rewards Catalog" due to low engagement and have streamlined spending points at the Book Fair. Students no longer have to worry about what their points are worth at the Book Fair with no change being given if they didn't spend in certain multiples. Now all points earned are simply: 1 point = $1. We have increased students' current balances to be in line with this change and have also similarly increased how many points are earned from all sources. Please head to the Mountain Oaks homepage and look under "Academic Resources" and then "Student Rewards" to see the details of where/how students earn points as well as the form students can fill out to see their points balance.Thanks!-The Rewards Team Posted 10/1/24
Healthy Families Survey - Due by December 20 Hello Mountain Oaks Families,The window for the California Healthy Kids Survey is open. The California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is an anonymous, confidential survey of school climate and safety, student wellness, and youth resiliency. It is administered to students at grades five, seven, nine, and eleven. It enables schools and communities to collect and analyze data regarding local youth health risks and behaviors, school connectedness, school climate, protective factors, and school violence. The CHKS is part of a comprehensive data-driven decision-making process on improving school climate and student learning environment for overall school improvements.California Education Code sections 51513 and 51938(c) specify that parent or guardian consent be granted before students are given questionnaires or surveys asking about personal beliefs or practices that include health behavior and risks. There are two kinds of parent or guardian consent: passive and active.Active Consent (for 5th graders) requires that a parent or legal guardian be notified in writing and gives written permission for the student to participate in the survey. Active consent is required of the fifth grade CHKS survey.Passive Consent (for 7th, 9th and 11th graders) requires that a parent or legal guardian be notified in writing about the survey and is given the opportunity to review the survey. Parents need to notify the school if they do not want their child to participate in the survey. Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. Your opinion matters.KathleenClick article title for more information and to access survey.Posted 12/5/24
