“The object of education is to prepare the young
to educate themselves throughout their lives.”

Robert M. Hutchins (1899-1977) American Educator

As we draw closer to the end of another school year, it seems a fitting time to contemplate the cycle of education. Sixty members of our Mountain Oaks community are completing their compulsory education this year. If we have done our job as an educational community, we have prepared them to be life-long learners. They will have answered three questions and personally met all three of our Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLRs):
• What can I do to make the world a better place?
ESLR:
A Mountain Oaks student develops & communicates a well-reasoned personal mission & goals that exhibit: a local and global awareness, empathy & understanding of diversity, a genuine sense of social responsibility.

• How can I communicate appropriately at any time in any way?
ESLR:
A Mountain Oaks Student develops & expands expressive & receptive communication skills to assure success in: educational, social and occupational settings.

• How can I achieve individual academic excellence?
ESLR:
A Mountain Oaks Student achieves individual academic excellence by engaging in rigorous standards-based learning activities.
Our Mountain Oaks staff thanks all those students who participated in the annual STAR testing and who did their best on behalf of Mountain Oaks School. STAR is the state’s official way of measuring the academic excellence of Mountain Oaks, so the continuing viability of our school rests partly on the results of this test. We appreciate those who made the effort to demonstrate their personal academic excellence during the STAR testing. We encourage everyone to make that extra effort on the end-of-the-year LinkIt testing. LinkIt is a more immediate assessment that measures how you, personally, grew this year. Please take it to heart.

More thanks to all the staff and volunteers who helped our intrepid STAR testing coordinator, Jean Hutton, in this Herculean task. We truly could not pull off STAR without you, Jean!

From now until the end of this year, keep a close eye on the website for details regarding a host of events at all three sites: Share Days, Senior Scholarship Awards, ASVAB testing, Math Mini-Bowl, Nature Bowl, ROV Underwater competition, Frog Jump, Mother Lode Round-Up Parade, Spring backpack trip, 8th and 12th grade graduations, and end-of-the-year parties.

Enjoy the rest of this year…
Anne and Jacqueline
