MINUTES Amador Workshop Committee Wednesday, April 16th, 2008; 11:00 AM (IONE) CHAIR/FACILITATOR: Anne
1. CALL TO ORDER: 1.1. Request Facilitator: Anne volunteers to facilitate.

3. CONSENT AGEND 3.1. Approval of Agenda: Valarie Moved, Janet Second, passed unanimously. 3.2. Approval of previous minutes: Anne moved, Valarie seconded, 3 in favor with 3 abstaining. 3.3. Review of Action Items from previous minutes.

5. REPORTS 5.1. Site Report (Anne) – Anne wanted to mention the Vision Focus Group for Amador will be held on 4/30 at 6 PM in Ione with food 5.2. Workshop Progress Updates and Budget (Melissa) –. Melissa updated the group on the workshop schedule and advised that all Pine Grove workshops will be ending on May 9th. The Ione site will continue through to the end of the year. Melissa will email the workshop tracking to Samantha per Richard’s request. 5.3. Pottery (Rose) – A question about extending pottery came up because of Living History Day. Arlene will be holding class on LHD due to people not attending LHD. Melissa will double check with Arlene in regards to this. Anne shared that a Pottery request has been put in for next year to have Pottery in Ione. A discussion about younger kids and older kids together took place and how the kids interact with each other. 5.4. Field Trip/Special Event Report (Anne) – This is covered in 8.6. 5.5. Living History Report (Rose) – Is still on schedule to take place on Thursday, May 8th at the Kennedy Mine. 5.5.1. Address also what to do with the previously scheduled workshops for May 8th. – In regards to Pine Grove site, a discussion was held about whether or not it would be up to the workshop instructors. Janet asked if it then for the workshops to be extended a week, with their last meeting on the 22nd of May. Janet moved to approve allowing the workshops instructors at sites other than Ione to decide to reschedule their May 8th workshop to May 22nd. Valarie seconded. Discussion took place about Living History Day and why it doesn’t affect Ione. A vote was took and the motion passed unanimously.

8.1. Fall Semester 2008 Workshop Schedule (Anne) – This is in regards to the Spring 2008 Ione Site Schedule. Anne went over the changes that were involved. Art has been extended an hour and several PE workshops have been added. Group Projects has also been added. Anne explained Math Lab to the Committee. This schedule will go through from April 28th to the last week of May. Discussion took place about how this Ione schedule came about. Valarie moved to accept the presented schedule from April 28th through May 29th. Karen seconded. Varied discussion took place about what can take place next year. Motion passed with 6 in favor and 4 abstaining. 8.2. Primary Group Instructor Change (Rose/Melissa C.) Starting in Fall of 2008, Melissa C will take over as Primary Group instructor. Rose has other interests she will pursue, allowing Melissa C. to step in. 8.3. Proposals for new workshops (Melissa C.) Melissa C. presented her ideas. Her course descriptions have been included in the written agendas for the following classes: 8.3.1. Oregon Trail History (All levels) 8.3.2. Book Club (2-6) 8.3.3. Book Club (6-8) 8.3.4. Book Club (HS) 8.3.5. US History & Geography (4-8) 8.3.6. World History & Geography (4-8) 8.3.7. California History (All) 8.3.8. Living Skills (All) Interest sheets will be posted for each class. Discussion took place about the grade levels and crossing with other classes. 8.4. Senior Project Workshop Idea (Valarie) Jason M. would like to have a senior project of War Tactics through the Ages class. Valarie read the letter that Jason drafted for her. An Interest sheet will be posted for the initial 8-week period. 8.5. More workshop ideas received from parents/students. (Melissa T.) – Melissa read the list of numerous workshops that parents/students at the Pine Grove site would like to see next year. This list does include existing workshops from BOTH sites as well. 8.5.1. Speech/Debate Workshop – (Janet) Janet presented her workshop idea for Speech class and what it would entail. It will be open for 5th grade and above. 8.5.2. Art Class (Valarie) Valarie presented her idea for a structured Art class at the Ione Site for next year. It would be open to all who are interested. Karen made a motion that all workshops discussed during the meeting be approved to post workshop interest sheets. Melissa C. seconded. The motion passed unanimously. 8.6. Recommendation from All Workshops Meeting -- Review 2007-08 budget and plan for 2008-09 budgets: Recommend that the Field Trip/Great Day formula be raised to $1000 base and $10 per student. (Anne) – Anne discussed the recommendation from SA All Workshops and how it came to be. The discussion turned to budget of improvement of the site and instructional costs. Carolini moved that the committee accept the formula. Valarie seconded. 11 in favor with 1 abstaining. 8.7. Robotics (Anne) – Robotics was requested to be put on the schedule for next year. This will have an interest sheet posted but there will not be any guarantees as this year’s robotics class is offered off campus.
9. CORRESPONDENCE 9.1. Letter from Rose. (Valarie) – The letter was read and the Committee felt that it would be appropriate to hold the letter for the Vision Focus Group meeting.
