MINUTES

Amador Steering Committee

Monday, October 8, 2007; 1:30 pm

CHAIR/FACILITATOR: Rose

 

1.         CALL TO ORDER: 13:30

 

2.        ROLL CALL: Janet K, Marie S., Anne C, Rose J, Melissa T., Debra L, Monica G, Valarie R.,

 

2.1.  Attendance policy restated from June 12th Governing Board Meeting (item 7.2) “Recommendation from Personnel Committee for standard policy for all committees: allow committee members to vote after attending two of three most recent meetings, with eligible voting members consisting of staff, parents or Governing Board members of Mountain Oaks. Committee members must recuse themselves regarding conflict of interest issues before the committee.”

3.        CONSENT AGENDA

3.1.  Approval of Agenda: Modified Agenda. Janet/Anne. 6 yes and 2 abstaining.

3.2.  Approval of previous minutes: Approved as corrected, Valarie/Marie; 5 in favor with 3 abstaining.

3.3.  Review of Action Items from Previous Meeting

 

4.        COMMENTS/ANNOUNCMENTS

4.1.  Winter Craft day orders must be in to Samantha by 10/12. (Melissa) Moved down to new business 8.3.

4.2.  The Aquarium Trip (Rose) Rose has called those who are interested. There are a few more spots available for the Aquarium trip on November 5th and can be added to the waiting list.

 

5.        REPORTS

5.1.  Brown Academy: Updates of the Brown Academy took place. A request was made to the Brown Governing board to hold a teen social from 5-10pm at Brown on the 29th.  Brown Haunted house will be open on the 26th.  Brown asked if the drama students would be interested in participating. Discussion about the dress code at Brown took place and the Brown Governing Board requests more input from families. Copies of the dress code and student code of conduct for Brown Academy were passed out (see front office for copies.)  Further discussion of the dress code ensued.

7.        OLD BUSINESS

7.1.  Begin reviewing committee goals for 06/07. (Anne)  See 7.2 minutes.

7.2.  Begin setting committee goals for 07/08 and discussion of WASC (Anne) Anne reported on WASC.  Review of the 2007 goals and discussion of 2008 goals ensued. Melissa will obtain a soft-copy of the WASC goal sheet and send out to parents and staff for their input. Input will need to be received by November 14th in time for the next meeting.  

7.3.  Discuss Fall ’07 Calendar (Anne) Tabled until needed.

7.4.  Halloween at Brown Academy (Rose) Wednesday, October 31st, 11-2; Elementary students are having Halloween social at Brown Academy.  Anne moved that the site staff meeting be moved down to Brown. Motion died for lack of support.

7.5.  End of Year Party (Rose) Discussion about last year’s End of Year Party took place. Rose asked that we recommend that we go with site individual end of year parties. Valarie moved that we poll our families and staff for a month to see what they want.  Anne seconded. 7 in favor, 1 abstain.

 

 

 

8.        NEW BUSINESS

8.1.  Teen Group request for Social (Debbie) Monday 10/26 from 5-10 pm at Brown Academy, subject to the rules. Valarie seconded. 7 in favor with 1 abstain.

8.2.  Set date of Steering Committee Meeting for November as the 2nd Monday falls on Veteran’s Day, a holiday. (Anne)  the meeting was set to Monday, November 19th, 1:30-3:30.

8.3.  Winter Craft Day (Rose) Discussion about winter craft day took place. Anne said she will coordinate the day if a parent does not come forward. Anne moved that Winter Craft Day be during the No Workshop Week, Tuesday, January 8th – 9:30-12 noon. Rose seconded. Discussion took place. Passed with 6 in favor, 1 abstaining.
