ROP Programs

The local Regional Occupational Programs are a great opportunity for high school students to get a head start on a profession. These are career training courses to prepare for employment.

As residents of Calaveras and neighboring counties, students are eligible to attend the ROP classes at the high schools, as they are county-run programs. There is also the possibility of attending the Amador and Tuolumne classes by contacting the local county offices.

WHAT A PERSON SHOULD KNOW:

• Regional Occupational Programs do not charge tuition, but students will be required to purchase certain materials and books that they can keep.

• Students will be responsible for providing their own transportation to class.

• Every ROP instructor has a credential to teach an occupational subject and has worked in an occupation related to the course.

• Employers are involved with ROP Advisory Committees to assist in verifying local labor market needs and help determine job-training programs needed.

• High School students may apply through their high school mentors and career counselor (Merlyn, 754-0532, ext. 270) or directly through the county offices, including neighboring counties.
