Work Experience is an
elective course which combines paid employment with instruction.
Students attend their own jobs during the week, and are assessed by their
mentor teacher for understandings of specific course curriculum.
Students will develop work habits, attitudes, self-confidence, job
skills, and a personal portfolio, which can be used to locate, secure, and
retain employment in the community. Students must have an
approved, legally paid job while earning credit.
Course credit is earned by completion of the requirements: following the
curriculum, submitting paycheck stubs, keeping weekly time sheets, demonstrating
an increase in skills and understanding of course curriculum, completing a
portfolio and submitting required forms. You
may earn up to a maximum of 10 credits per semester (40 credits in 4 years) at
the rate of one credit per 36 hours shown on weekly time sheets.
The Work Experience curriculum must be completed for any credit to be
given in a semester up to the completion of the 4-semester course. The curriculum includes:
how to get a job, keep a job, leave a job, as well as economic awareness and
career awareness. Students will
develop a portfolio which shows the abilities, knowledge, and skills achieved. A
certificate will be awarded upon completion of at least two semesters of Work
Experience with a passing grade and
completion of the required portfolio. Work Experience
